The Bookish Snob Tag

Since in the same week we were tagged by Linda @ Dusts of Magic and Katie @ The Storybook Sisters to do this tag, we figured that it was a sign from the universe telling us to just do this tag immediately, and so here we are! This was originally a Booktube tag, and you can find the original vide here! Today we’re going to reveal our snobby selves, and discuss all the ways we turn up our noses at certain genres, bookish formats, and more! (Also, we’re not actually judging anyone who chooses answers other than what we give. In actuality we’re just responding with our personal preferences. If you would have chosen differently, good for you!)

ADAPTATION SNOB:

Do you always read the book before watching the film/ TV show?

Malka: Hmmmm, my instinct is to say yes, but that’s not always true. For example, I didn’t read The Umbrella Academy comics before watching the (fantastic) show. But in other cases, I made a point of reading the source material beforehand. But I think if I were interested in the movie, but didn’t want to read the book, I wouldn’t pressure myself to read the book just so I could watch the movie. I’d just watch the movie!

Chana: In a way yes? If I know that something is an adaptation I try my best to read the thing before watching the movie/TV show but if I don’t know and I already started the show or movie I don’t stop myself from watching and run to read the book. 

FORMAT SNOB:

You can only choose 1 format in which to read books for the rest of your life. Which one do you choose: physical books, eBooks, or audiobooks?

Malka: Physical books! I go in phases with eBooks. I’ll read a ton of books on Kindle for a few months, and then I’ll go several months without touching an eBook. As for audiobooks, I’ve only listened to two of them, and I’m very picky about narrators and story length because I’m so new to listening. So by default, physical books win! Which honestly would probably have been my gut answer as well! I mean, 75% of my reads this year have been physical copies! 

Chana: Physical books! I have zero attention span so it’s really hard for me to listen to audiobooks of books I haven’t read before, and though I love ebooks I’m usually not the best at staying focused on reading an ebook when I have so many other things to do on my phone. 

SHIP SNOB:

Would you date or marry a non-reader?

Malka: As long as they support the fact that I read, and don’t mind me babbling about books all the time, a non-reader would be fine. Or even a reader that doesn’t read the same genres as me would be fine as well. Shockingly enough, whether or not they’re a non-reader is not my top priority!

Chana: Yeah! I mean I love chatting about books with people but I don’t think that it’s the only thing in my life, so it doesn’t really matter to me so much whether the person I date/marry is a reader. 

GENRE SNOB:

You have to ditch one genre – never to be read again for the rest of your life. Which one do you ditch?

Malka: Easy answer for me. Horror and thriller. I never read those genres anyways because I get too scared, so it’s not like I’d actually be giving up on a genre I enjoy!

Chana: Erotica. I use this answer for every time we’re asked to name a genre we don’t read, but erotica is a genre I can ban and not even notice that I’ve banned. 

UBER GENRE SNOB:

You can only choose to read from one genre for the rest of your life. Which genre do you choose?

Malka: Romance! The genre is quite broad, and really can fit into so many categories. I can read from any age range, and get some historical, fantasy, and contemporary settings. Plus, I could still read cute graphic novels like Heartstopper, Soppy, and Fangs! 

Chana: Fantasy! (Yes our answers are very obvious and predictable). There are loads of different types of fantasies with urban, high, low, I feel like I’d have so many different types of books to choose from.
