August 2022 Reading Wrap Up

You may have noticed that I pretty much disappeared in August. Or maybe you didn’t. Either way, I’m here to explain all the goings ons of August, which didn’t include much reading, sadly enough!

Books Read:

I’m going to keep you in suspense for a little bit longer as to WHY I’ve been so busy, but the lack of reading is my proof! I only managed to finish ONE book in the entirety of August. That’s right. Just one! And it was a novella, no less!

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I’m not going to say much about this book, since it’s the 4th installment in the Murderbot series, but I enjoyed it a lot, and would still recommend the series. I mean, if my exhausted brain wanted to keep reading this last month, I don’t know what more proof you need that this series is quite captivating!

Books Acquired:

This month I was so busy, I didn’t even have time to buy an excessive amount of books ! But I did check out an independent bookstore or two near my new home and at one of the stores I visited I picked up 2 books.

Purchased:

Firstly, I found an autographed copy of Ride On, and since I really like Faith Erin Hicks as an author and illustrator, I picked up a copy. And I’ve been wanting to read Invisible Women for several months now. So when I came across a copy, I snatched one up! Here’s to hoping I read both of them soon!

Things I Did:

Now we’ve finally come to the section I’ve been hyping up! The section on what I read and what I purchased may have been a bit sparse this month, but this section will be more lengthy. You see, on August 1st I moved to a new state to start my very first official job as a biomedical engineer!

That means that the entire first week of August was spent driving several hours, lugging furniture, boxes, suitcases and other assorted items up lots of steps. Then my time was spent unpacking, building, and finding a place for everything. After that came the shopping for food and small items like clocks and lamps and laundry baskets. And then just as I had fully settled in to my new place, came the first week at my new job!

I’m working at a company that gets contracted to make medical devices. These devices range from an inhaler to a full surgical robotics system, and of course, everything in between. I get the fancy title of Associate Design Quality Assurance Engineer, otherwise known as an Associate DA. Basically what that means is I figure out all the ways a device can end up harming someone, and try to put measures in place to mitigate those risks. After a month, I’m slowly leaving the training stage, but I still have a lot to learn!

So basically August was a LOT! I’ve been running more errands, doing more housework, and dealing with more day to day tasks to keep my new place in order. And I’ve been learning lots, working long hours, and getting up early for my new job. And with all that I’ve even been doing a great deal more socializing than I have in years! So now you know why I haven’t been super active in August, and probably won’t be super active in September either. But as soon as I’m settled into my new routines I’ll be back again!

How was your August? What was your first job? What was the best book you read this month?

  1. Congratulations on the job! That sounds a whole lot all at once, moving, settling in and then starting work. No wonder you’ve been gone you definitely must have been crazy busy. It always takes a while to adapt to a new routine so hopefully you can be back blogging. Also, glad you enjoyed another instalment of the Murderbot series, it’s so good and I’ve found the audiobooks are perfect for me to listen to when working.

    1. Thank you so much! It definitely was a crazy month! I don’t think I’ve ever been so tired for such a prolonged period of time! I’m definitely slowly adapting to a new routine, but it’s taking time, for sure! I can’t wait until I have the time to blog regularly again!

Yes! I’ve taken a little break, since I liked how the 4th novella ended, but I’m excited to get back in Murderbot’s head sometime soon!

    1. Huh. I have no idea where that quoted line is from. Should I know where it’s from?

And I’m not saving them for anything! The next one is just not a novella, so I got intimidated and never picked it up, and then I had to return it to the library. But maybe I’ll attempt to catch up to the newest release in the next few months. Perhaps.

        1. I WAS GONNA GUESS TAYLOR SWIFT! DARN IT! Was my favorite Betty? Really? No idea. That might be true. I wouldn’t know. But I’ve been listening a lot to Anti-Hero and Don’t Blame Me at work recently, so at least I know those songs if you’d quote them?

Yeah, there are 1 or 2 full size books in between all the novellas, and I’m not sure my brain can handle so many words. I mean, at this point it would probably be fine? But back in August and September? Definitely not. But you’re totally right. I’m very excited to chat about the next installments with Chana once I read them. She also sends me relevant memes and fanart as I progress through the series, so that’s a lot of fun too.

          1. Don’t Blame Me has randomly come up for me a lot too even though it was like 5 albums ago, but I’m not complaining because it’s really fun to sing-yell (how do you do that at work??). Also Anti hero, Midnight Rain (underrated), You’re on Your Own Kid are on repeat too.

Chana sending you fanart /posts as you go along is so cute! Maybe you’ll be all caught up for the last one and you’ll get to buddy read!
