Hello, friends! Today I’m participating in the blog tour for Recommended For You! I was asked to do a creative post, which of course means that my mind was blank for a good few weeks, but soon after finishing this book, an idea came to me!
You see, while this book centers around a book store and a budding friendship (and possibly more), food comes into play quite a bit. From Latkepalooza, the last night of Hannukah celebration that the main character Shoshanna and her moms have every year, to Shoshanna eating in the food court with her best friends in the mall where they all work, a lot of the relationships in this book get solidified over food! And since there’s a significant inclusion of cookies towards the end of this book, I figured it would be fun to watch some of the main characters to a cookie that matched their personality!
Shoshanna
The main character of this story, Shoshanna acts quite impulsively, and many times even childishly throughout this book. Her personality is very BRIGHT and out there, and immediately made me think of funfetti! I also think of funfetti as this really cheery baked good, and that fits Shoshanna’s personality perfectly!
Jake

Since this is an enemies to lovers story, I only found it fitting to choose a cookie that has a bit of a kick when you first bite into it for the love interest! Gingersnaps are a super yummy treat but they definitely aren’t all sugar and sweetness! Plus, these cookies smell fantastic, and Shoshonna always loves the way Jake smells! (And looks. And smiles. And hold books. She likes a lot of things about him.)
Daniel

Daniel works at the same book store as Shoshanna. Although Shoshanna used to be super close to him, throughout the book there’s a bit of distance between her and Daniel. So obviously the perfect cookie to represent this relationship is a crinkle cookie, which is defined by it’s cracking and spreading, all of which add distance!
Myra

Myra is the owner of the book store that Shoshanna, Jake, and Daniel all work at. When thinking of Myra, I thought of a calm, steady presence that’s always around to provide guidance. So what better comparison to make than to the classic chocolate chip cookie! If you need a cookie, there’s sure to be some chocolate chip version that can be found nearby!
Cheyenne

Cheyenne is one of Shoshanna’s best friends, and she tends to try out a new hobby every few weeks. This made me think of a fortune cookie, where every time you crack one open, the inside is a surprise. Similarly, every week Cheyenne’s newest hobby is something new and unexpected!
Geraldine

Geraldine is Shoshanna’s other best friend, and she’s an aspiring beauty YouTuber. So when I think of her, I think of aesthetically pleasing makeup looks. And what cookie is more beautiful than macarons! Brightly colored as they are, macarons can easily be inspiration for an eye shadow palette one day, and no one would be surprised!
Mom

Mom is the stricter of Shoshanna’s mothers. She literally is a tough cookie! So when I was thinking of a cookie to represent her strength and her firm style of parenting, biscotti came to mind! These double baked treats can be difficult to bite into, but that doesn’t mean they’re not worth it!
Mama

Mama is soft and gentle, and a generally calming and warm presence in Shoshanna’s life. Her cookie came to me immediately. There was no way she could be anything other than a sweet, melt in the mouth sugar cookie!
And there you have it! Those are the cookies that I think suits each character best! I hope my comparisons and reasoning made sense, and I’d love to hear what baked good you think best represents the main character from the book you either just finished or are currently reading!
Now as the title suggests, there is a giveaway! It runs for one week, and you can click on the link below to enter! It’s only open to the US, unfortunately, and the winner must feel comfortable sharing their address!

Thank you! I’m so glad that my choices made sense! I was quite worried that they wouldn’t, so I’m very grateful for the reassurance! And I totally understand that! I think I may have been craving cookies when I wrote this post, which is how they ended up being the featured so heavily!
Thank you! 💕

1. Have yet to read a Laura Silverman book, but I might read You Asked for Perfect when I’m not in school? I can’t read it now because I feel like I’ll relate a little too much.
2. Books that take place in a bookstore . . . does Comics Will Break Your Heart count? It takes place in a comic book shop
3. I’m reading the Poppy War for the third time and I’ve decided to torture you with cookies and explanations for all 3 main characters because I’m not nice:
Rin is one of those two-toned cookies you get as a treat in school ( the black/white, pink/white, blue/white ones), because she faces an internal divide at every turn. Does she do this horribly stupid thing or this boringly rational thing? You can guess which one she picks consistently
Nezha is an oatmeal raisin cookie; he’s super divisive but those who love him, looooove him. Also, just as oatmeal raisin cookies pretend to be oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, Nezha pretends to be a redeemable person 🙃
Kitay is a snickerdoodle; it’s the closest cookie to a precious cinnamon roll (which Kitay issss). I have met very few people who dislike snickerdoodles and even fewer who like arguably the best character in the Poppy War.
As always, great post ❤️

Hiiiiii,
1. I totally get that! You Asked For perfect is a super stressful read because of how well you’re able to feel how anxious and overwhelmed Ariel is. It’s a great read, but I support your decision to wait until you aren’t already stressed by your own schoolwork!
2. I think it counts. I mean, I count comics, graphic novels, and manga as books that I’ve read each month, so by that logic, since I consider comics a subset of the general term of “books”, comic stores are book stores!
3. You really need to find better ways of torturing your friends. I loved reading through your thought process of how you matched these characters to their cookies!
I love why you chose the two tone cookies for Rin! I think that’s a super creative, and really well-reasoned pairing. I will say that I now think less of Rin, not for whatever stupid decisions she makes, but because of her association with two tone cookies, since I think those cookies are boring and bland.
As for Nezha, since I love oatmeal raisin cookies, there’s a good chance I’d like him as well! But since you mentioned that he’s pretty irredeemable, now I’m not as sure!
Based on what you’ve told me about the series, I think Kitay would be my favorite, and since I like snickerdoodles, that fits! I like your reasoning behind this pairing as well! I think that you are really good at matching up characters to a fitting cookie!
Thank you! 💕

I really enjoyed pairing these characters with a matching cookie. I had been struggling with ideas for a post, but when this one popped into my brain, I knew that it would be such a fun post to write! Plus, searching up these images of the cookies gave me a really good reminder that I want to bake more! Hopefully, I’ll make some of these cookies sometime soon, and they’ll be just as delicious as the pictures I included!

Thank you! I had such a fun time coming up with these pairings, so I’m glad you enjoyed! I’m also pretty sure that I had my first gingersnap this year, but I really enjoyed it, so it probably won’t be my last!

If this post gets you to either read the book or eat a cookie, I will have done my job. If I get you to do both then I’ll really have to celebrate! (Probably with some cookies. Obviously!)
Thank you! 💕
